Manufactured Food Database

The Manufactured Food Database (MFD) has been compiled by Nutrition Services, Auckland City Hospital from information voluntarily supplied by New Zealand food manufacturers.

NZFSA contracts the Manufactured Food Database to provide this information.
The MFD provides listings of manufactured foods available in New Zealand that are suitable for people with some common food allergies or intolerances

 

Egg Allergy


These food lists of manufactured foods suitable for those with egg allergy have been compiled from data supplied by food manufacturers.

For the purposes of this list foods have been excluded which contain egg, ingredients derived from egg and any precautionary warning statements regarding egg.

Gluten Free

For the purposes of the gluten free list the MFD has followed the current FSANZ Food Standards Code:

Standard 1.2.8 Claims in relation to gluten content of food
A claim to the effect that a food is gluten free must not be made in relation to a food unless the food contains no

(a) detectable gluten; and
(b) no –
(i) oats or their products; or
(ii) cereals containing gluten that have been malted, or their products

Low Gluten


These food lists include manufactured foods that are both gluten free and low gluten (contain trace amounts of gluten)

In New Zealand the low gluten standard has always been recommended as a safe and appropriate treatment for the vast majority of coeliacs

For the purposes of this the low gluten list the MFD has followed the current FSANZ Food Standards Code:

When there is a requirement for a total exclusion of lactose then the list of foods suitable for those with a milk allergy is the appropriate one to use.

For the purposes of this list foods have been excluded which contain soya and all forms of soya products including vegetable oil, hydrolysed vegetable protein and lecithin. On analysis some of these ingredients have been found to contain no detectable levels of soya protein, but expert opinion has suggested there may still be free amino acids present. In addition foods have been excluded which have any precautionary warning statements regarding soya.
